Genesis-41 has been designed with the following goals

1- Be the number one HP41CX emulator available for Mac on the market
2- Great commercial grade product as well as state of the art esthetic, simple and efficient user interface
3- “Feel” as close as possible to the real calculator
4- Support for third party modules, peripherals and microcode development
5- Satisfying 41C enthusiasts around the world with a cool application on Mac OSX

· In which "market" does Genesis-41 emulator fit ?

It is an emulator which provides all features the HP-41CX real calculator provides, and also provides several additional major features as shown in “Features at a glance”. It also supports all modules developed by third parties in the 80’s, just after the calculator has been released on the market by Hewlett-Packard. These modules are today available on the net as software "ROM's" and can be loaded as is on Genesis-41.

Genesis-41 also adds features on its own. In fact the emulator itself represents only 30% of the application. It is intuitive and perfect for learning purposes in particular in showing how a computer works at the assembler level "hands on". However, this emulator is not a development environment or "IDE" nor a macro assembler.

Genesis-41 is an educative application "game like" primarily targeted for schools and universities. It is also aimed at pocket calculator collectors and enthusiasts.

· Why would you buy this application ?

Many possible reasons, maybe because you like the original HP-41C calculators and would like to try out all the modules which are no longer available for sale. You get a virtual printer and card reader with it, plus you can even program some microcode very easily (which is not possible easily on a real calculator without an EEPROM programmer or the famous Hepax module).

Maybe you also did not have the money nor knowledge to use all these modules at the time they were in the shops. Some of these modules are even more expensive second hand nowadays when for sale on eBay, and definitively too hard to find for a normal person.

You might want to run again the old programs you have written many years ago.

Nothing simple and intuitive like the Genesis-41 emulator exists on the Internet for the Mac, specially offering this list of features.

· What is the Genesis-41 emulator useful for ?

See question 1 above. Mainly learning purposes or simply because it is nice to look at when running the desktop with the clock running.

· Where can I find documentation ?

One of the goals of this emulators is to allow you to enjoy and have fun with the 41CX calculator as if it would be real. The calculator is at the center and the emulator should be as discrete as possible. Therefore, the documentation is in fact the set of original books published by HP as well as third party module vendors, and there are many. You can find a complete DVD here.

The web site you are on now, contains also some additional documentation on the emulator across the “Features at a Glance” pages and here. These documentation pages will be maintained and improved to follow up the emulators new features.

· Why is the Genesis-41 emulator not available on PC's for Linux or Windows ?

Because such an emulator already exists for PC's, however with less features. In addition, I needed flexibility consistency and ease of development in order to make Genesis-41 looking good as well as being robust, which all together I could not find on PC environments.

A multi-platform application requires much more work to maintain and has a trade-off regarding overall quality.

· Is there a free version available ?

Not anymore, there was one with a runtime to maximum 10 minutes, full featured but with all Load/Save functions disabled, and the calculator always starts with a MEMORY LOST. The full unlimited version cost is 39 US$.

· How do I get a license ?

From this Web site and purchased via PayPal. Click here to get a valid license.

You will receive a license via your E-Mail address after the payment is received. You have of course to provide a name and a valid E-Mail when registering on-line. This license is for a single user and is not supposed to be shared or distributed on the Internet or anywhere else. If I find a valid license on the net or elsewhere on a public database, it has a big chance to be revoked and disabled within the next official Genesis-41 bundle.../Documentation/Features_at_a_Glance.htmlhttp://www.hp41.orghttp://www.hp41.org../Documentation/Features_at_a_Glance.html../Other_docs/Configuration_Example.htmlDownloads.htmlshapeimage_1_link_0shapeimage_1_link_1shapeimage_1_link_2shapeimage_1_link_3shapeimage_1_link_4shapeimage_1_link_5
